Benfotiamine

Benfotiamine

Benfotiamine (vitamin B1) 250 mg
Thiamine (vitamin B1) 10 mg (as thiamin HCl)

Non-Medicinal Ingredients: Vegetable cellulose (capsule), microcrystalline cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, rice flour, vegetable stearate, silica.

A fat-soluble and a far more bioavailable source of Vitamin B1 than water-soluble thiamine, which is converted by the body to activate thiamin compounds. Activated thiamine is essential to activate many critical enzyme systems affecting all bodily functions, and is easily depleted by stress, magnesium deficiency, refined foods, and/or alcohol consumption. It’s essential to the prevention and treatment of nerve damage, neurological problems, or cancers. For this reason, benfotiamine is used in Paragon Formula 1, and at higher supplemental levels for individuals with high metabolic demands, or significant healing requirements.

Supports the healthy function of nerves in individuals with polyneuropathy
Supports normal growth, nerve function, and energy production
Helps maintain the body’s ability to metabolize nutrients
Helps prevent thiamine deficiency

Benfotiamine is clinically shown to offer protection against advanced glycation end products, typically associated with blood glucose irregularities. This because the enzyme transketolase is critical to blood sugar metabolism. Like many enzymes, transketolase requires a co-factor. In this case, it needs assistance from thiamine. However, as thiamine is water-soluble, it is less available to the interior of the cell. Benfotiamine is fat-soluble and can easily penetrate the lipid walls of cells to get inside.

In a landmark study, benfotiamine effectively increased transketolase activity in cell cultures by 300%, compared to 20% for thiamine. This robust activation was sufficient to block three of the four major metabolic pathways leading to blood vessel damage. Benfotiamine also blocks the activation of the transcription factor known as nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB), which is implicated in numerous inflammatory conditions.

Overall, benfotiamine can activate glucose metabolism and promote healthy blood glucose levels in those already within normal range. Benfotiamine also helps maintain healthy endothelial function and supports the health of the nerves, kidneys, eyes, blood vessels, and heart.
